Paco De Lucia, John Mclaughlin & Al Di Meola: Mediterranean Sundance
READ THIS BEFORE POSTING COMMENTS!!! The actual footage from the historic recording. Only 1st 5 min of Mediterranean Sundance by Al Dimeola and Paco de Lucia. The rest is not the same as the album. I included just a minute or so of Paco's solo that shows the rest of the piece is different. WHY??? Because the orginal CD was edited and Spliced together from different performances (different nights). Perhaps Al's final run was fixed in the studio. This Vid reveals what was actually played. Paco's solo is not edited at all. But only up to the 5 min mark. The rest of the piece (I did not load it on purpose) that is played here is NOT what was on the CD. That was spliced in from a different night on the CD. You notice right on the decending chromatic run where it is different. The other difference no one noticed yet in the comments, is that this vid is both a hair slower, and quater tone lower than the CD version. In other words, the CD is speed up a bit. As you can see here, they are amazingly fast players of course! New CD available at: http://www.flamenco-teacher.com/storeitem?item=800106 Also check out my website: http://www.richardmarlow.com/

Aphex Twin: Ventolin
Exploring the experimental possibilities inherent in acid and ambience, the two major influences on home-listening techno during the late '80s, Richard D. James' recordings as Aphex Twin brought him more critical praise than any other electronic artist during the 1990s. Though his first major single, "Didgeridoo," was a piece of acid thrash designed to tire dancers during his DJ sets, ambient stylists and critics later took him under their wing for Selected Ambient Works 85-92, a sublime touchstone in the field of ambient techno. James' reaction to the exposure portrayed an artist unwilling to become either pigeonholed or categorizable
Warp Films
Here are some of their releases.
Warp Films Releases
History
Warp Films has created some of the most exciting pieces of British film making in the last five years. It has won numerous plaudits and awards (including three BAFTAs) since being set up in 2002.
'My Wrongs 8245-8249 and 117' was Warps first short film and was directed by Chris Morris. It won the BAFTA in 2003 and for its television premiere on Channel 4, more than one million viewers tuned in to watch it. Warp sold an astounding 22,000 DVDs of My Wrongs and was the first DVD single in the UK market.
Warp's debut feature 'Dead Man's Shoes', directed by Shane Meadows, received a record eight British Independent Film Award nominations, including Best Film, Best Director and Best Achievement in Production. Dead Mans Shoes was also nominated for a BAFTA and won the Southbank Award for Best Film. The film has received nothing less that rave reviews across the board, and is being hailed by some as a landmark in British cinema.
Chris Cunningham directed Warp's next film, Rubber Johnny, an experimental short and 42-page book that shocked and amazed audiences.
Following Rubber Johnny Warp made the critical success 'Grow Your Own', a film written by Frank Cottrell Boyce (24-Hour Party People), which tackled the subject of immigration.
In 2006 Warp made their most successful production to date: 'This is England', the story of Shaun, a boy who is befriended by a local skin-head gang after his father is killed in the Falklands war. With it's evocative soundtrack, dazzling young star and emotive content it has won numerous international festival awards as well as scooping Best FIlm at the British Independent Film Awards and Best British Film at the BAFTAs. At the same award ceremony Warp collected it's third BAFTA as Paddy Considine's directorial debut 'Dog Altogether' won best short.
Warp FIlms has also worked closely with the Arctic Monkeys, producing two music videos for them and collaborating on the short film 'Scummy Man' starring Stephen Graham, which won best music video at this year's NME awards. Richard Ayoade has recently directed a feature length live show film with of them. shot at their final concert of a world tour.
Warp Films' development slate currently includes projects with directors Shane Meadows, Chris Morris, Chris Cunningham, Richard Ayoade, David Slade and Lynne Ramsay. They are also dedicated to seeking out new voices; this goal is reflected in their recent ventures into promo making and the new digital slate, Warp X.
Asylum Street Spankers: Hick Hop
Mulholland Drive: Silencio Dub
This is the scene in David Lynch's masterpiece Mulholland Drive where the stunningly beautiful Betty & Rita (Naomi Watts & Laura Elena Harring) go to a late night theater called Club Silencio. The performer does a monologue varying in English, Spanish, and French about how everything is an illusion. I have done a little remixing and refixing to add a slight more musical substance to the scene. Beats and processes all done by myself. Enjoy :-)
Dave Brubeck: Blue Rondo a la Turk
The film was saved from destruction in 1984 and now is with the Australian National Film and Sound Archive.
A 1" PAL telecine transfer of the film was sent to Dave Brubeck's management in the mid 90s.

Impress, a smooshy 3D touchscreen by Silke Hilsing
I'm having a little bit of difficulty parsing the art-speak, but I'm pretty sure from the pictures that "DIS.PLAY" is a prototype projection surface that responds to not only touch in two dimensions, but smooshed down into a third.

Oh, there's a video! Now I get it. Silke Hilsing, I like everything about this. Good job!

Asylum Street Spanker's Children's Video Entry
My entry for a children's music video contest hosted for the Spanker's new Kids album "Mommy says No". No winner was ever announced for this contest which means 1 of the following: A. this and the other entries were sooo horrible they did not wish to unleash these videos on the general public. B. Short term memory loss (too many funny cigarettes) caused the Spanker's to forget such a contest was ever promoted. C. All of the above.

BB Video Groove Armada Contest: Download Some MP3s, Win a 16GB iPod Touch
Boing Boing Video is teaming up with acclaimed big beat techno music stars Groove Armada for a contest around the duo's new release -- which they're offering online, using an interesting experiment in digital promotion and distribution. The tracks are DRM-free. The new EP will be delivered through a sharing system called Bacardi B-LIVE Share, and Bacardi is basically serving as the band's record label.
Groove Armada's Andy Cato explains the thinking:
Sharing music has always gone on -- it's giving music away that's the problem. We wanted to come up with a 21st century version of what we used to do with cassette tapes. When you give music away for free it's disposable. When you share it, it's done with love. The online sharing application will be available until March 2nd, when the EP becomes available via commercial digital release.
HOW THE FREE DOWNLOADS WORK
When you register at the B-Live site, you receive one track off the new EP for free. To get more, you share a unique link for that first track (which you receive via email) to a number of friends. You can do this via Facebook if you like. While you do have to provide an email address, and you must be of legal drinking age (Bacardi's the sponsor, after all) you can opt in or out of receiving promotional emails from the band. You don't have to provide other personal information. The more times the track you share is downloaded by your friends, and their friends, the more additional tracks you're given access to. And if you sign up via BB, you're automatically entered in... (drum-machine roll, please)...
THE BOING BOING VIDEO CONTEST (prize: a 16GB iPod Touch)
The contest begins today, and ends on February 25. It's simple: register for the Groove Armada free music downloads via this unique link (which traces the fact that you came through us), and winner will be chosen randomly from users who click through from here. That's pretty much it. The prize: a 16GB Apple iPod Touch. Use it to store all of these GA tracks you download, with an awful lot of jiggabites left over to store whatever else you want to carry around -- games, photos, more tunes, perchance some Boing Boing Video episodes, hmmmm?
ABOUT THE MUSIC:
Some of Groove Armada's better-known tracks from past releases include "Superstylin," "My Friend," and "Tuning In."
Here's a blurb from the band's website about the new material:
The four track EP sees the band moving into exciting new musical pastures, with some of the material being recorded live with their band for the first time. This is demonstrated on tracks 'Drop the Tough' and 'Go', both songs featuring new vocalist Saint Saviour from electro-pop outfit The RGBs. 'Pull Up (Crank It Up), with much-loved UK-based MC Slarta John, takes the EP up a gear and looks set to become their 'Superstylin' of 2009. 'El Padrino' makes up the 4, an instrumental that showcases the true talent of the live band in Balearic style. Remixes of 'Drop the Tough' come courtesy of Australian Electronic/Rock group Van She and Brazilian dance duo The Twelves.BOING BOING VIDEO INTERVIEW WITH GROOVE ARMADA COMING UP!
Groove Armada's Andy Cato and Tom Findlay are scheduled to join us on an episode of Boing Boing Video sometime soon. I'll update the blog when we've firmed that up with their tour schedule. For now, below, I've embedded one of my favorite earlier tracks by the band -- "Tuning In." Once again, here's the link to register for the GA/Bacardi free download thingie, which also enters you in the aforementioned contest. Enjoy, and happy downloading.

North Mississippi All Stars: Make Me Down A Pallet On Your Floor
Nick Ogawa: Shady Grove
In his words:
I love this song. It's a traditional folk/bluegrass song that's been handed down and evolved in various ways over time. There are tons of different versions out there. I originally learned it from a friend, who had learned it from the Jerry Garcia and David Grisman "Pizza Tapes."
Recently my version has been getting some radio play, which I'm really excited about! My album includes this song and is available on cdbaby.com here:
